The European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) has opened in June 2011 with a large exhibition of contemporary artists, a collection unseen before in Europe, the common denominator of which is working in line with the rules of figurative art.
Many of the works on show stand out for their exquisite realism. Forcefully contemporary painting and sculpture that awaken the pleasure of the senses.
The MEAM occupies a building called "Palau Gomis" in the centre of the Born district.A 18th-century palace with a long history and a notable influence on the urban development of Barcelona. It was the home of General Lechi, who led the Napoleonic troops.
It is entered by a large courtyard, bordered by sculptures, with a large arch and stone stairway. The interior features the large central hall, ten meters high.
The restoration has respected all the original painting, decorations of ceilings and walls, and fully deserved the FAD Decorative Arts Prize.
