Recently an article in the Dutch fashion-and lifestyle magazine 'red' described with great enthousiasm the neighborhoud "Eixample" in Barcelona. Literally the 'barrio' was described as the hippest of all in Barcelona.

"Eixample" simply means "extension" in the local catalan language. This neighborhoud was designed already some time ago, the late 19th century, by Ildefons Cerdá. The typical octoganal blocks give more visibility and ventilation at the street crossings although these days this is quit succesfully ruined by parkings... Most of the beautiful modernistic buildings were built in the barrio Eixample, absolutely worthwhile to walk through on a sunny day!
